Why is art considered to be so important in a child's life?

Art is a language. Through out time, art has been one of the most effective ways to express ideas and feelings. Art can be considered to be our first language. Children draw and paint before they learn to read and write. We can consider their pictures to be like words that tell us a story and this marks an essential step for literacy.

It is essential to make an effort to understand the importance behind what we see as scribbles, random lines, and blobs. All of these marks represent what children see, feel, and tell us. Children are able to “read” these important marks to us, this can be considered to be their first step toward reading exposure.
